Reporter won't reveal source in attorney general leak case

Kane Press Conference

Consultant Josh Morrow is testifying Thursday at Kane's perjury and obstruction trial. She is also accused of lying under oath to try to cover it up.

Morrow says that he and Kane met after the story ran to concoct a story that pinned the leak on her chief deputy, Adrian King. Her defense team asked for an acquittal Friday morning, telling Judge Demchick-Alloy the prosecution presented insufficient evidence, and "No reasonable jury could say the Commonwealth has proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt". He says he made a decision to tell the truth once he realized as he put it, the lie was unraveling. "We had conspired to create this story that wasn't true".

Kathleen Kane maintains her innocence, saying she did nothing illegal.

NORRISTOWN Flashing a confident smile, Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane told a judge Friday that she will not testify at her perjury trial.

Testimony in the perjury trial of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane ended in dramatic fashion Friday with Kane opting not to testify.

Ultimately, she went to Bruce Beemer, who was then Kane's top deputy and "somebody I knew I could trust".

Morrow said Kane had "a lot of animosity" toward former state prosecutor Frank Fina, whom the leaked documents were meant to embarrass.

Morrow, who has been granted immunity for his cooperation with prosecutors, admitted from the witness stand Thursday that his story has changed and evolved over time.

Mondesire was one of the central figures in a grand jury report Kane is accused of leaking to the Philadelphia Daily News in 2014. The felony perjury charge can bring up to seven years in prison. She knew the prosecutor, Frank Fina, had shut down a 2009 investigation of an NAACP leader from Philadelphia, J. Whyatt Mondesire.

This non-defense comes after a bombshell yesterday, when Joshua Marrow, a former aide to Kane, testified that they had attempted to cover up the leak with her. He did not say who gave him the documents that he wrote about.

Transcripts below are of a phone call recorded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and used by prosecutors in the perjury case against Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane arrives for the fifth day of her trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pa., Friday, Aug. 12, 2016. She remains in office, although she has lost her law license.
