Trump defiantly apologizes after lewd remarks about women revealed

Donald Trump pledged to'be a better man following the leak of vulgar comments on women

Lee said in a video to Facebook after Trump released a message dismissing the "more than a decade old video" as a "distraction".

"I moved on her and I failed". The tweet comes amid almost universal condemnation of those remarks, in which Trump was caught in an off-camera conversation speaking in vulgar terms about women.

By the time Mr Trump posted his video apology, three Republican members of Congress had called on him to abandon the race.

"I'm automatically attracted to lovely women - I just start kissing them, it's like a magnet".

Trump's campaign has weathered other controversies, but the latest flare-up is being treated more severely than in the past.

"I've never said I'm a ideal person, nor pretended to be someone that I'm not. I've never withdrawn in my life". "I have tremendous support".

Trump said he's been getting calls of support after a video tape surfaced Friday that captured him making vulgar and sexually charged comments about women.

Trump declared himself a changed man, but raised the infidelities of former President Bill Clinton and slammed his Democratic opponent in the November 8 election, Hillary Clinton, saying he would talk more about their past in coming days.

"I've never said I'm a ideal person, nor pretended to be someone I'm not", Trump said in a video statement and Facebook posting addressing the incident.

However, he also added that the video was just a distraction and that there was a big difference between "the words and actions of people".

Journal reporter Monica Langley told CNN on Saturday that Trump also plans to make a speech Saturday night about the video to show that even though establishment Republicans are turning against him, he still has support from millions of voters.

Illinois Senator Mark Kirk, who remained #NeverTrump throughout his tough re-election battle, tweeted that the GOP "should engage rules for emergency replacement".

"As a father, as a Christian, and as a Republican, I believe that we simply can not tolerate a nominee who speaks this way about women".

Trump's foreshadowing that he will raise Bill Clinton's affairs and sex abuse allegations from the 1990s "in the coming days" suggest that the Republican nominee is switching gears after suggesting as recently as Thursday night that he would not raise those scandals in the debate on Sunday. Among them was Utah's Jason Chaffetz, who called Mr Trump's words "some of the most abhorrent and offensive comments that you can possibly imagine".

Hillary Clinton seized on her rival's comments, calling them "horrific".

The Democratic nominee told bankers behind closed doors that she favored "open trade and open borders" and said Wall Street executives were best-positioned to help overhaul the US financial sector. He added that "Trump is not fit to be president of the United States and can not defeat Hillary Clinton". "It's over", he said.

The Republican, who is chairman of the House oversight committee, tells a Utah television station he "can no longer in good conscience endorse this person for president".

"Access Hollywood" has identified the married woman whom Donald Trump admitted to hitting on in a lewd recording from 2005 that was released Friday.

During the lewd conversation captured by a microphone Trump was wearing on his lapel, Trump recounts how he tried to "f--" an unidentified married woman before bragging that he is "automatically attracted to beautiful (women)" and just starts "kissing them".

Earlier Friday, in his meeting on border security, Trump said border agents have been told to allow immigrants into the United States illegally "so they can vote in the election".

Mr Trump's comments aired in a near-constant loop on U.S. news programmes on Friday.

"Grab them by the p-. You can do anything".

"Women are to be championed and revered, not objectified", Ryan said in a statement, though he did not rescind his endorsement of the GOP nominee.

Spencer Zwick, a top Republican fundraiser, said donors are backing away from Trump.
