Vulgar Auteurism Reigns in Latest Trailer for Paul WS Anderson's 'Resident Evil

But we won't get too far ahead of the inevitable here. Since its theatrical debut in 2002, the series has spawned a total of six films and grossed well over $1 billion in worldwide box office, making it the most successful film series of its kind.

Following on yesterday's New York Comic-Con teaser for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter [watch it here], Sony Pictures has released a full length trailer for the sixth and final instalment in the Resident Evil franchise; check it out below after the official synopsis... Picking up directly after the events of Resident Evil: Retribution, The Final Chapter sees Alice heading to The Hive in Raccoon City, where this post-apocalypse began.

Serving as something of a recap, we see the beginning of the outbreak that led to Raccoon City - and indeed the world - transforming into a monster-ridden wasteland. Ukranian-born American actress Milla Jovovich stars as Alice while other casts include Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker, Australian actress Ruby Rose playing as Abigail, Ali Larter as Claire Redfield, Eoin Macken as Doc, William Levy as Christian, Lee Joon-gi in the role of Commander Lee and Iain Glen as Dr. Alexander Isaacs. Whatever your feelings on the quality of Paul W.S. Anderson's take on Capcom's smash hit survival horror series (some people love 'em, some people hate 'em), there's no doubt that Milla Jovovich's Alice and her adventures have carved out their own niche in the cinematic universe. And despite the relatively low quality of story and consistency in the series, there's no denying it presented us with one of the raddest female action badasses ever put to screen.

Look for it on January 27, 2017.
