Airbnb: stranded refugees can stay with us for free

One company, Airbnb has taken the step of providing free housing to refugees and anyone not allowed in the US.

Furthermore the executive order terminated the entire United States refugee programme and also started a 90-day travel ban for nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Uber is facing backlash after drivers tried to do business at JFK Airport Saturday during a taxi strike against President Donald Trump's ban on travelers from majority Muslim countries.

Airbnb is offering free accommodation to anyone left stranded following President Donald Trump's travel restrictions. "We have 3 million omes, so we can definitely find people a place to stay".

For now, Airbnb noted that they will provide further details about their free housing program in the following days for those affected by the executive order.

Meanwhile, several other USA tech firms too have expressed alarm over travel restrictions issued by Trump administration from seven Muslim countries and those are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia.

Airbnb has opened its doors for refugees not allowed in the U.S. - and they don't have to pay a penny. The executive posted on Twitter asking those caught in the ban can contact him for urgent housing needs.

After Trump signed an executive order temporarily barring citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen from entering the United States, opponents of the ban have staged protests and filed lawsuits arguing that the order is discriminatory and unconstitutional. A federal judge has stayed part of Trump's executive order till February 21.

According to the company's website, Airbnb operates in 191 countries.

"Barring refugees and people who are not a threat from entering America simply because they are from a certain country is not right". In fact, the company has matched the $1 million worth of donation to the UN Refugee Agency.

Google has recalled US-based staff now travelling overseas, with the executive order extending to USA residents with green cards and work visas.
