Govt to consider Apple's request with 'open mind'

India is strongly willing to convince the tech behemoth to produce its signature smartphones here, and the Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad stated as much on Wednesday when he said that that India would consider the negotiations with an "open mind".

The Apple Inc. team is set to meet government officials next week to discuss their plans for setting up manufacturing units in India.

The government won't offer any special concessions to Apple but is reviewing its entire policy on mobile phone manufacturing as part of an effort to promote the "Make in India" initiative, officials said.

The government officials further said that India needs support from big brands like Apple and hence, will look at its existing policies.

India has turned into the quickest developing business sector on the planet for cell phones and Apple has demonstrated enthusiasm for amassing its items there, yet it is trusting that the neighborhood government would give it a few tax cuts and different motivating forces, including perhaps a long haul obligation exception. Many officials say that Apple has agreed to do this because they know that India is a lucrative market and not because India needs them.

He announced a cap of $1.5 billion on the amount of subsidy the government provided under the Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) created to boost electronics manufacturing. But, it may be hard for the government to make exemptions for one company.

Modi met Apple CEO Tim Cook last May and discussed iPhone production in India.

China's labour cost has increased significantly, prompting multinationals' to prefer India, she said.

- It also demanded to import defective iPhones to fix and export them again.

- Tax duty exemption on raw material and manufacturing, components, and capital for15 years for both domestic asnd export markets. Apple is reportedly asking for concessions that haven't been given to any other foreign companies.
