Greenpeace activists unfurl 'resist' banner from crane near White House

This morning, seven Greenpeace activists risked life and limb to climb a 300-foot crane and unfurl a banner in protest of the President.

The protesters reportedly climbed the crane at around 8 a.m. Wednesday and attempted to unfurl a banner, although it wasn't clear what they were protesting, according to The Washington Post.

The protest near the White House closed streets and snarled traffic in Washington on Wednesday.

Police arrested Pili Hernandez and six others who participated in the action on Wednesday evening after they descended the crane, and served them with charges of Second Degree Burglary, Unlawful Entry, and Destruction of Property. "Multiple government resources were tied up, and streets were blocked while first responders attempted to safely address this matter". Construction work had to be stopped at the site.

Environmentalist organization Greenpeace has taken responsibility for the protest, which is specifically directed towards Trump's executive orders to advance the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.

"It was a little chilly this morning when we arrived at the crane site, but it was a lot chillier in the oval office when President Trump made a decision to sign those executive orders reinstating the Keystone Pipeline, reinstating the North Dakota pipeline, taking women's right to choose away from them", Topakian said in a Facebook vid.

The protests comes a day after President Donald Trump moved to delay implementation of some environmental rules and froze new environmental protection agency contracts and grant awards.
