Bomb blast kills child, wounds 17 in southeastern Turkey

A Turkish media report says an explosion has hit a town in southeastern Turkey injuring a number of people

Sanliurfa Gov. Gungor Azim Tuna told the news agency that a person parked the vehicle near a housing complex in Viransehir for members of the judicial system and detonated the bomb with a remote device.

Officials said one of the dead was a child.

Hurriyet Daily News reports the blast happened near lodgings housing judges and prosecutors at around 8pm local time.

The child who died in the blast was the son of a court clerk, he said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Around 15 people were hospitalized but none of them was in serious condition, Tuna said.

Three months later, authorities arrested 21 people there suspected of plotting attacks in the country.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ strongly condemned the attack.

In the past year, Turkey has suffered a number of attacks from terrorist groups. including Daesh and the PKK.

Sanliurfa governor Azim Tuna confirmed to the Anadolu agency that PKK was behind the attack, adding that a nearby housing complex had been "severely damaged".

"Our determined and effective fight against terror will continue", he said.
