Cameroon defeats Egypt to win 5th AFCON title

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny opened the scoring for Egypt midway through the first half with a handsome near-post finish, before Lyon defender Nicolas N'Koulou leveled it up in the 59th minute, with Cameroon looking increasingly more positive.

Cameroon have won the Africa Cup of Nations courtesy of a dramatic 2-1 victory over Egypt in the final in Libreville this evening. They had only conceded one goal in the run-up to the final and were well-organized at the back, giving precious little away when Cameroon were in possession.

Cuper's own career has featured numerous disappointments in finals, most notably in successive seasons in the UEFA Champions League with Valencia in 2000 and 2001.

Will it be Cameroon or Egypt lifting the Africa Cup Of Nations trophy on Sunday?

Both the goals came from substitutes, Nkoulou and the hugely influential centre-forward Vincent Aboubakar.

They have a strong team spirit which is reflected in the way they defend from the front.

"I ask the Egyptian fans to support the team".

Egypt then opened the scoring midway through the first period with a superb team goal. A congregant of friends who want to play football and doing everything to win the game. "But they are here so anything is possible in the final", Rohr added. The last time a side came from behind to win the trophy was in 1994, when Nigeria beat Zambia 2-1.

Cameroon suffered another blow when central defender Adolphe Teikeu was forced off through injury, N'Koulou replacing him in the 31st minute.

Through the group stage matches they continued to build up a team grounded in defensive football tactics that have worked wonders for them. But thrown on here through necessity, it was he who pulled his side level in the 59th minute.

Substitute Vincent Aboubakar swept in the victor two minutes from time, flicking the ball over defender Ali Gabr and thumping it home.

The heroics of Egypt's 44yearold goalkeeper Essam El Hadary helped them edge through to the final on penalties.

Cameroon enjoyed some good possession, but they lacked the quality to create clear-cut chances, the underdogs at times showing their inexperience with some poor decision making and wasteful shooting.
