No conspiracy, mystery in Jaya's death: Doctors

Beale faced a number of questions including some hostile ones as he and the other doctors sought to clear the air at a government arranged press conference at a star hotel on the health of the AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister when she was rushed to the Apollo Hospitals here on September 22 last. With earlier notifications from the Hospital management saying that Jayalalithaa had recovered and will return home soon, the denial of entry of various dignitaries who had come to pay her a visit, and the complete confidence that was maintained about the treatment and status of the ex-CM raised so many questions, suspicions and conspiracy theories. This was for nominating AIADMK candidates for elections to two seats and bypoll to one segment previous year.

When asked if Jayalalithaa was conscious when she signed the Election Commission's papers of her party nominee for November 19 bypoll to Thirupparankundram, the doctors said she was very much awake.

Bacterial infection in blood was underlying problem.

"She was having serious blood pressure issues aggravated her condition further and was suffering from uncontrolled sugar, urinary infection, blood pressures and dehydration".

The doctor said it was chose to discontinue the process after about 24 hours and the decision was taken after consultation with all doctors, including the AIIMS team, who had arrived.

While Beale said releasing a photograph of Jayalalithaa was impossible due to privacy of the patient, he added that it was Sepsis, a blood infection, that was the key diagnosis. The developments were conveyed to VK Sasikala, who was her closest aide. He also described as "ridiculous" the idea of exhuming her body for a re-postmortem as suggested by the Madras High Court.

Beale said in Jayalalithaa's case, it became obvious that there was no response.

London's Doctor Richard Beale has addressed media. Beale on Tuesday said that Jayalalithaa took a call on who she would meet.

The doctors revealed information on Jayalalithaa's death at a time when her longtime companion Sasikala Natarajan is gearing up to take oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

"At the beginning, when she was unwell, she was not able to interact".

"Jayalalithaa showed him a thumbs up sign", Balaji said.

Jayalalithaa was declared dead at Apollo Hospitals on December 6.

According to the doctors, normal embalming process was followed after Jayalalithaa's death. A doctor said that for 24 hours Jayalalithaa was put on another machine to see if her heart restarts, but there was no "own heart beat".
