S.Korean prosecutors to summon Samsung heir over bribery charges

Lee was first brought in for questioning a month ago, when the team grilled him for 22 hours straight.

A prolonged investigation into the latest political scandal surrounding Ms Park and the country's large business groups could potentially derail succession plans at Samsung, which has already delayed some major management plans.

South Korean prosecutors interrogated Samsung's de facto chief executive Lee Jae-yong for the second time on Monday.

Samsung is suspected of providing tens of millions of dollars in money and favors to Park and her jailed friend Choi Soon-sil in exchange for government support of a controversial merger deal between two Samsung affiliates in 2015.

The special prosecution had investigated further during the three weeks since the court rejected the earlier application for an arrest warrant, the spokesman added.

Lee Kyu-chul, a spokesman for the special prosecutor, told a news briefing the office would decide later, possibly this week, whether to again seek an arrest warrant for Lee after he is questioned on Monday.

The head of Samsung, who first gave evidence in front of a parliamentary hearing in December previous year, admitted giving $17.46 million (20.4 billion won) to the two foundations. Ms Park was impeached in December over her...

The head of South Korea's biggest conglomerate has reportedly been questioned about bribery and embezzlement, along with two other top Samsung executives. The secret confidante is on trial for charges including corruption and coercion.
