Smokeless tobacco company issues recall after complaints over metal fragments

The products at issue were manufactured exclusively in USSTC's plant in Franklin Park, Ill., and distributed nationally. Consumers have called the manufacturers and alerted them of the foreign objects that they found.

The US Smokeless Tobacco Company, a unit of Altria Group Inc., has ordered a recall of their products nationwide, such as Cope, Copenhagen, Husky Brands and Skoal. USSTC has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of the recall and is working with federal authorities on this matter. The products were distributed nationally.

Any customer who has any of these listed products should not open or use the product. The complaints came in from Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.

The company that issued the recall, Altria, said not all products or lots are affected and that the majority of its cans are fine.

Most of the company's cans are not affected by the recall.

The recall was voluntary by USSTC. "Though we have only a limited number of cans that are reported to us as affected and no reported injuries, we are taking this action in the interest of our consumers".
