South Korea blames the North for killing of Kim Jong-un's brother

Half brother of North Korean leader assassinated in Malaysia

Malaysian police detained a woman holding Vietnamese travel papers, and were looking for several other foreign suspects. In 2012, a jailed North Korean spy in South Korea admitted to trying to organize a hit-and-run "accident" against the king's half brother.

Kim Jong Nam and Kim Jong Un have the same father, late dictator Kim Jong Il, but different mothers.

NIS officials believe two women approached Kim and poisoned him as he was waiting in line for a flight to Macau, according to the lawmaker, although he added they were waiting for the autopsy report.

Kim, who fell ill at Kuala-Limpur worldwide airport, had complained that he was being sprayed by some sort of chemical substance and later died on his way to hospital.

The death comes a day after North Korea fired a ballistic missile over the Sea of Japan in a test, which interrupted a dinner between USA president Donald Trump and Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe.

North Korean embassy officials followed Jong-nam's body when it was taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning.

After growing up in Western countries, Kim has been living outside North Korea for decades.

A woman has been arrested over the assassination Kim-Jong-un's half-brother in an alleged poisoning at a busy airport. Malaysian authorities, meanwhile, have arrested a suspect in the crime.

"Malaysia said it won't be pressured into anything. we will stick to procedures", a source told Reuters.

After the Disneyland incident, much of the rest of Kim Jong Nam's life was spent overseas, first in China and then in Macau.

Kim Jong-nam, aged 45, was the eldest son of North Korea's late leader Kim Jong-il and actress Sung Hae-rim.

CNN reports that Kim Jong-Nam was absent from his father's funeral in 2011, at the time fueling rumors that he'd been banished from North Korea.

"If it is proved that Kim Jong Nam's death was committed by the North Korean government, it will be a case that shows the brutality and inhumanity of the Kim Jong Un regime", said South Korean acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.

The estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been killed in Malaysia, according to South Korean security sources.

Few details about why Kim was targeted have been provided by Malaysian officials. One of them said Kim Jong-nam also had a wife and son in Beijing.

Kim Jong Nam was the eldest son of North Korea's late leader Kim Jong Il and the leader's mistress, the actress Song Hye Rim, and was, for nearly a decade seen as the likely successor in the DPRK's hereditary political system.
