USA flight diverted after threat, but found to be hoax

According to Fox 2, the plane was diverted for a security check. The airline "requested to land and have a security check of the aircraft", said Jeff Lea, a spokesman for Lambert-St. Rebecca Wu with the FBI's office in Saint Louis told NBC4 reporter Olivia Fecteau agents were responding to the scene to investigate "some kind of threat".

Flight 534 left Columbus, Ohio, and was heading for Arizona when it landed in Lambert Airport at 8.14am on Thursday.

By about 11 a.m., some crew members had returned to the plane, the mobile stairs were removed and the plane was moved. Neither American Airlines nor the Federal Bureau of Investigation would say what prompted the diversion. Bomb-sniffing dogs then checked the bags before they were transported to the terminal.

The plane finally lifted off from Lambert about 2:50 p.m., nearly six hours after it was scheduled to land in Phoenix. "Airport is fully operational", Lambert posted in a tweet. It made the emergency landing in St. Louis at 9:14 a.m. Wu says there was no credible threat. The aircraft is now cleared to move from its location on the airfield.
