Former CIA chief: Trump should 'apologise' to Obama

U.S. President Donald Trump leaves the Oval Office as he prepares to depart the White House on Friday. Several Republicans last week urged Trump to apologize for the allegations he made that his predecessor Barack Obama had wiretapped him last year

When asked if the public can trust that the Senate Intelligence Committee can investigate alleged ties between the Trump administration and Russian officials as Americans first and not as Republicans, Cornyn answered that "I think Chairman [Richard] Burr and Vice Chairman Mark Warner have done a good job setting the tone for a bipartisan investigation".

"I was a judge for 13 years in Texas before I came to the U.S. Senate", Cornyn said. On that day, Trump lobbed the explosive allegation that his predecessor wiretapped his phone during the campaign season. It's not a charge that I would ever have ever made, and frankly unless he can produce some pretty compelling proof, then I think President Obama is owed an apology in that regard. "I know the leaders of both those committees, I have a lot of respect of them, they said they found no evidence and until we see something different I accept their conclusion".

Mr Flynn was sacked by the president last month after his assurances that he had not talked to Russian officials were proved to be false.

WASHINGTON ― President Donald Trump's March 4 tweetstorm was a stunning occurrence, even for someone who regularly spews controversial thoughts on social media.

"The one crime we know that's been committed is that one: the leaking of someone's name", Nunes said. But Schiff, the panel's top Democrat, said there was enough "circumstantial evidence" that he still had questions.

"Was there a physical wiretap of Trump Tower?"

Earlier this month, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer referred to unsubstantiated allegations made by a Fox News analyst that GCHQ, the British electronic intelligence agency, had helped Obama wiretap Trump.

Meanwhile, the White House has not backed down on Trump's surveillance claims.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who oversees the Justice Department and was a staunch Trump supporter during the presidential campaign, said last week he never gave the president any reason to believe he was wiretapped in the weeks before the November election.
