Google Earth relaunches today with stunning detail

First up, Google Earth is now available on the Web, and you won't require a standalone app to use it. The original service has come a long way and is now debuting some nifty new features additions that'll make your experience more intuitive and interactive. Zoom in and see what adventures await you in the new Google Earth.

Next up is the 3D view feature that will basically present you with a bird's eye (read drone's eye) view of the city you are exploring, provided it is available.

There's an "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, which will whisk you away to a random point on Earth and show you a "Knowledge card" with a tidbit from Wikipedia; a bookmarks section; and support for Google Earth's KML files, which allows you to easily import geographic data. If you're particularly impressed with something, you can tap the new "Camera" icon to instantly share a screencap of your view, alongside a link to its coordinates. There's also a new 3D button that will allow users to explore new places in 3D instead of the archaic flat satellite imagery.

With the new Google Earth, users can also take guided, interactive tours led by scientists, documentarians and other experts in order to discover the wonders of the world.

Google Earth is getting a revival, with the 3-D mapping service becoming more of a tool for adventure and exploration. We've curated 20,000 different places, so roll the dice and see where the world takes you. Then head to Gombe National Park in Tanzania and hear from Jane Goodall about her team's chimpanzee research and conservation efforts.

The company published a new application for Android which replicates the functionality of the new Google Earth.

Earth Day is coming up this weekend, and to celebrate, Google Earth received a major update today to version 9. Now, every time, you search for a location, a "Knowledge Card" will be pop up along with it which will contain more details such as attractions, geographical stats and more.

Online explorers cruising the mobile version of Earth can also capture pictures on their travels, sending friends digital postcards. The new update is now available for the web and Android, but Google does mention support for iOS and other browsers is coming in the near future.
