Labour leader says United Kingdom election 'establishment vs people'

Labour mulls second Brexit referendum in manifesto

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn set the tone for his campaign by criticising May for her "broken promises" on healthcare and education, and jabbed at her for not agreeing to take part in television debates before the election.

MD of £100m turnover independent logistics business Europa Worldwide Group, Andrew Baxter - a firm supporter of both Brexit and PM Teresa May - gives his reaction to today's announcement of a snap General Election on June 8. This is fighting talk from a Leader with nine seats in Parliament.

The broad contours of the electoral debate likely to unfold in coming months began to emerge during Prime Ministers Questions and the debate held just ahead of the vote, as leaders and significant figures across the political spectrum sought to clarify their views.

She said after the decision to go ahead with the snap poll as against the scheduled poll in 2020 that the early ballot would strengthen Britain's negotiating hand with the 27-member EU.

Douglas Carswell, who defected from the Conservatives to Ukip before leaving that party to become an Independent, said on Thursday that he will not contest his seat in Clacton.

Conservative party chairman Patrick McLoughlin said Labour was seeking to "disrupt" the Brexit negotiations, adding: "This can only mean more uncertainty for Britain".

She hopes to win a stronger majority as she negotiates the terms of Britain's divorce from the EU.

Britain's next national election had not been due until 2020, a year after the scheduled completion of two years of European Union exit talks.

"Under the (Brexit) treaty everything under the treaty is under the court", Mr Tajani said.

"And we [will] know the real situation in the United Kingdom, we [will] know the government...it's better for us to work with the same government and not with a potential election campaign", he added.

The Labour leader has also promised greater access to leisure, arts and sports across the country, and to expand the publicly controlled bus network.

"This election is about her government's failure to rebuild the economy and living standards for the majority", he said. I know that with Theresa May, she would take them. With the Labour Party now, and for the foreseeable future, being in disarray with an unelectable Leader, and head-in- the-sand attitude towards uncontrolled migration, borders and loss of national Sovereignty, her prospect of winning the election with a greatly increased majority is looking very promising.

Nigel Farage ruled out standing in the general election, claiming his position as an MEP gave him a better chance to influence Brexit.
