McIlroy says would think twice about golfing with Trump again

Lexi Thompson of the United States was given a four stroke penalty while leading the final round of the ANA Inspiration tournament in California, and then lost a play-off to So Yeon Ryu of South Korea.

She nevertheless birdied three of the last six holes to force the playoff, but couldn't match Ryu's playoff birdie.

It was deemed that Thompson, 22, had marked her ball on a two-footer on the 17th in the third round and replaced it around an inch away.

"Well it was an emotional day here for me, first off I do want to say what I had done was 100% not intentional at all I didn't realize I had done that", said Thompson. "And to be able to drive down Magnolia Lane with a green jacket in the auto and to come back and to be announced on the tee as the defending champion. words can't really quite describe the feeling". "I fought strong to the finish and it was great to see the fans behind me".

However, the infraction took place in the third round on Saturday, and Thompson wasn't even told about the four-stroke penalty until after she completed the 12th hole during Sunday's final round.

Again, Thompson was short for birdie, while Ryu sank a 3-footer to win.

This was her fourth LPGA victory and her second Major following the 2011 US Women's Open title. "But at the same time, I haven't finished second at Augusta six times".

"It's great to have the fan base that I do and they really got me through the whole round", Thompson said.

"It is unfortunate with what happened, I did not mean that at all, I had no idea that I did it". Just the way I played coming in.

Ryu still made the traditional joyous leap into Poppie's Pond with her caddie and family.

BILOXI, Miss. - Miguel Angel Jimenez made a birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat Savannah native and resident Gene Sauers and win his second consecutive Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot a 69 to finish sixth at 11 under.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) were quick to defend their actions and released a statement after they chose to hand her the penalty.

Thompson was penalised two strokes for an incorrect ball placement and two strokes for an incorrect scorecard.

"Is this a joke?" Thompson asked officials, before regaining her composure to continue her push for victory despite the setback. Thompson birdied the par-4, 387-yard 15th hole to retake the lead before giving it back a hole later with a bogey.

Thompson had previously won the ANA Inspiration - once known as the Dinah Shore Tournament - in 2014.

Fans and fellow pros were unhappy with the LPGA's decision and let them know on Twitter. Tiger Woods was the most recent member in 2000.

"Viewers at home should not be officials wearing stripes", he wrote.

Asked about dealing with the memories of a year ago, the world No 6 added: "It will surely be there and it has been".
