More Americans Think President Trump Doesn't Keep His Promises

The Gallup poll surveyed a pool of 1,019 adults from April 5 to 9.

The results come as Republicans in Congress and President Donald Trump's administration work to enact tax reform.

Fifty-two percent of those surveyed believe Trump is a strong and decisive leader, although that is down from 59 percent in February. So did the number of people who think he can "bring about changes this country needs", which fell seven percentage points, too, to 46 percent.

According to the latest data, only 41 percent approve of the job President Trump is doing, with 53 percent disapproving.

In the two months since the last poll, Trump has failed to deliver on - or seen a catastrophic failure in his effort to make good on - most of his central campaign promises.

In March, a Gallup poll revealed that President Trump has already received approval ratings as low as Barack Obama ever saw during his eight years in office. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

Check back for more as Trump continues to tweet. While numbers sank the furthest among respondents who identified as a Democrat or liberal, independents who said they thought Trump kept his promises fell from 59 percent to 43 percent; even among Republicans, the numbers fell, from 92 percent to 81 percent.

While Trump's approval rating ― never especially strong to begin with ― has not decreased very significantly in Gallup's tracking since February, positive views of his personal traits clearly have.

United States President Donald Trump's setbacks on campaign promises such as repealing the Affordable Care Act or "Obamacare" and his shifting positions on other issues seem to have hit his approval ratings hard.

Two weeks ago President Trump ordered a cruise missile strike against a Syrian air force base that had been used to store chemical weapons used in an attack that killed nearly 100 civilians.
