Pence avoids direct answer on North Korea sabotage

South Korea guards hold hands

Pence spoke on Tuesday with reporters about the partnerships the USA has with Asian countries that surround the North Korean regime. On Wednesday, Pence is scheduled to visit the U.S. Navy's Yokosuka base and give a lecture in Tokyo. And the vice president believes American voters will be able to pinpoint accomplishments as it reflects on the administration's first 100 days.

The remark was referring to the growing U.S. trade deficit derived from excessive barriers for U.S. businesses in the South Korean market.

That clarity we hope will be received in North Korea, and that they will understand that the United States of America, the people of South Korea, our allies across the region are resolved to achieve our objectives through peaceable means or ultimately by whatever means are necessary to protect the interest, the security of the people of South Korea and to bring stability to the region.

North Korea regularly threatens to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States.

"Short of launching a shock and awe campaign which would be overwhelming in its breadth and scale there's not a lot else the U.S. and its allies can do other than tighten the constrictor grip on the North", said Alex Neill, a senior fellow at the Shangri-La Dialogue.

In early March, Trade Minister Joo Hyung-hwan met Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in the U.S.to set out the benefits of the trade pact from South Korea's point of view. A senior official at the White House blamed the error on miscommunication.

"All options are on the table".

"While all options are on the table", Pence said, "President Trump is determined to work closely with Japan, with South Korea, with all our allies in the region, and with China" to resolve the problem.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has once again pledged the Trump administration's commitment to defending its allies in Asia from North Korea and any other threats.

Pence's trip comes almost three months after President Donald Trump pulled the USA out of the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership, a deal that with US participation represented almost 40 percent of global gross domestic product worth $30 trillion.

North Korea's nuclear and missile development dominated the agenda on his first stop in South Korea.

US Vice President Mike Pence has issued a fresh warning to North Korea, saying that Washington will counter any potential attack with an "overwhelming and effective" response.

At the outset of their meeting, Pence reiterated to Abe his statement in South Korea that the United States has run out of patience with Pyongyang's moves. But his response went beyond offering a simple "no comment", as he made it very clear that the U.S. recognized that the launch failed, and failed nearly immediately.

The vice president will wrap up his four-nation tour in Sydney, Australia, on April 22.

A U.S. State Department official said Monday there is no hiccup in the ongoing deployment of a cutting-edge missile defense system in South Korea, dismissing concern about a political setback.

I asked, if the United States successfully helped liberate East Germany from the oppression of communism then, couldn't or shouldn't the United States help liberate North Korea now?

This prompted an nearly immediate response from South Korea's defense ministry, which said that the deployment was not influenced by politics, but declined to specify on how far the preparations had advanced.
