Samsung Galaxy S8 facial recognition feature was tricked by a selfie

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd unveiled its Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone as it battles to regain the market leadership it lost to Apple Inc after the embarrassing withdrawal of the fire-prone Note 7s. There's also fast charging, which charges the S8 faster than normal.

But in a latest video released by iDeviceHelp, facial recognition may not really be a safe method to log in.

The device's key feature is the display. The ease with which the user was able to unlock the device should pose a concern for the users despite other ways of securing the device.

The Galaxy S8 is certainly an impressive device, but most of us probably have a voice at the back of our heads asking if this will be another Galaxy Note 7.

In terms of the internal components, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices have 4GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Samsung Exynos 8895 chipsets depending on the region. The Galaxy S8+ instantly lures you in and reminds you that Samsung, despite the recent quality control disaster, is synonymous with quality.

However, turns out that the facial recognition system might not be as secure as you thought and while it definitely sounds that even the most proficient of hackers can not check what sort of data you have stored behind the security wall, there is actually a very simple way to bypass the facial recognition feature. It will be interesting to see where on the phone Apple decides to put the button if true, as some Samsung fans have noted concerns over the company's decision to put the button right next to the camera. As of today, this security option is no longer present on Google devices.

Unfortunately, it also requires you to throw yourself into the Samsung ecosystem: only 10 Samsung apps are supported at launch. These are bezel-less, full-frontal, edge-to-edge devices featuring an 8MP selfie-snapper and a dual 12MP rear-facing camera. It was also found out that the software only works with Samsung phones running Android 7.0 Nougat. Do you plan to buy a Galaxy instead of an iPhone?
