Venezuelan protesters rally for fourth time in a week

Another rally is called for Thursday.

A ban on Capriles - a sports-loving lawyer who has tried to shake the opposition's reputation of elitism by focusing on grassroots efforts with poor Venezuelans - would mean the country's two top opposition politicians are barred from taking on Maduro.

AFP reporters also witnessed a National Guard soldier lying unconscious after having been struck by a large rock. Rights group Penal Forum says nearly 100 people have also been arrested during protests in the last few days. There have been protests for and against the Venezuelan president in recent months. The court mostly reversed its decision over the weekend, but protests nevertheless continued.

Long seen as one of the more moderate voices in the opposition alliance, Capriles has taken a much more strident tone in recent weeks, joining the demonstrations and traveling overseas to met foreign leaders critical of the Maduro government.

Negotiations have failed and he has resisted global pressure, while retaining backing from the military and control over most state institutions.

"I can say now... that peace triumphed in Caracas and in Venezuela", he said.

CARACAS, Venezuela-Around ten thousand Venezuelan opposition supporters marched in the capital on Saturday, as the galvanized opposition kept pressure on embattled President Nicolás Maduro as the country headed for long Easter holidays.

The protesters were demonstrating against a decision by the Venezuelan Supreme Court to assume control of the opposition-led congress.

The opposition-controlled Congress is moving to officially censure the seven Supreme Court judges who issued a ruling last week nullifying the lawmaker body.

On Wednesday lawmakers, some still injured from the previous day's protest, began a symbolic process of removing Supreme Court justices. But that would require a green light from the attorney general, prosecutor general and comptroller, all Maduro allies.

The opposition, which accuses ombudsman Tarek Saab of being an extension of Mr Maduro's government, was blocked on Thursday from marching to the ombudsman's office.

On the streets, protesters said they want to get rid of Maduro.

Right-wing opposition supporters took to the streets of Caracas and other cities in Venezuela on Saturday in ongoing violent protests against the government as fears mount of a possible repeat of the February 2014 Guarimbas opposition-led riots which left 43 people dead.

State comptroller Manuel Galindo on Friday imposed a "sanction of disqualification from exercising public office for a period of 15 years", his institution said in a ruling made public by Capriles himself.

Munoz specified that to date Enriquez had only asked for protection, but not for asylum.

The Bolivarian National Police used tear gas against protesters gathered in Caracas' main highway, who sought to reach the Ombudsman.

On Wednesday, clashes broke out in the western city of San Cristobal, the scene of deadly riots and looting previous year, and in the city of Valencia.

Venezuelan authorities confirmed a 19-year-old man was killed on Thursday during demonstrations, the first death since the Supreme Court controversy blew up last week. The controversial order gave the judicial body the authority to push through an oil-related bill, but it was intentionally mischaracterized by the opposition and its worldwide media supporters as a coup attempt.

The opposition blames Maduro for the economic crisis.

Venezuela was supposed to hold regional elections past year, but Maduro delayed them until 2017.
