Democrats see opposition to GOP health bill as winning issue

The House last week narrowly passed legislation aimed at repealing and replacing ObamaCare, sending the bill to the Senate.

The House health-care reform bill faces an uncertain future in the U.S. Senate, but one of the nation's leading health-care experts says the legislation ought to make the Senate's job easier while assuring wary consumers that the plan is poised to rein in costs without kicking anyone to the curb.

"They're going to have to devolve more power to the states". They all know what is going on. I think even Democrats have started to recognize that we can't continue on the path that we're on and this is our moment and our time to fix it. "This will create some momentum".

In this regard, this passage of this Trump-supported bill is similar to the passage of Obamacare, which Democratic leaders rammed through Congress in hyper-partisan fashion without the vote of a single Republican lawmaker.

This is the bill that had them celebrating behind Trump in the Rose Garden after pre-gaming inside, as if we were well on our way to getting the kind of universal health care here that they have in Australia, presided over by a president, Malcolm Turnbull, who is apparently now our own President's very best friend. As of this moment there's no deadline.

Well, Paul Ryan, for one.

"He owns every part of this", Kim said of MacArthur.

Democrats also targeted Republican governors in Democratic-leaning states, including Maryland's Larry Hogan, who did not take a public position before the House vote.

If the bill passes the Senate, people will either be denied coverage or charged extortion prices if they, for example, become pregnant, develop cancer, or suffer depression while without insurance. (I'm sure there's a Bible verse that justifies this approach to health policy, somewhere).

These people are not just at risk because of those conditions, but also because so many are suffering from them can barely afford the health care they have now. Yet, that is precisely what it does, because some of the pre-existing conditions that trigger higher costs are either exclusively or predominately experienced by women.

Meanwhile, Ryan would have put a cap on Medicaid spending and slowly throttled the program, while slashing taxes.

The group, American Action Network, says its ad buy will focus on key elements of the American Health Care Act.

Haseley is referring to a portion of the bill that repeals taxes for the Affordable Care Act from high-income people, drug companies and insurers. In addition, consumers in several states find that their insurance no longer covers "essential health benefits", such as maternity care and mental health services; doesn't meaningfully cap out-of-pocket costs; and effectively restores pre-Affordable Care Act annual and lifetime limits. The GOP plan would allow states to waive that provision for insurers, enabling them to charge much higher rates to those with pre-existing conditions. And it torches a bunch of taxes. The bill bans federal money from being used at reproductive health facilities that also provide abortions. States used fees and taxes to make up the difference, and states sometimes made it more hard to some to qualify for care.
