Donald Trump attacks 'fake news' following Jared Kushner reports

But people familiar with the matter say the Federal Bureau of Investigation now considers the encounter, as well as another meeting Kushner had with a Russian banker, to be of investigative interest.

"The facts are that Jared Kushner has said from the very beginning he is willing to go and share any information that he has with Congress, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation", she said on "Fox & Friends".

Ambassador Sergey Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, son-in-law and confidant to then-President-elect Trump, made the proposal during a meeting on December 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by US officials. "So generally speaking, about back-channel communications, what that allows you to do is communicate in a discreet manner". Kushner was a private citizen during the campaign and the reported meeting with Kislyak, but later become a special adviser to Trump.

The piece was based on one anonymous source who claimed that the Russians, and not Kushner, broached the idea of the secret backchannel during the meeting, which was held at Trump Tower and was attended by Russia's ambassador and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media", Trump wrote in a series of Twitter posts.

Ivanka Trump posted a video of son Theodore, 1, upon her return Friday morning, writing, "It's hard to be away. especially when this little dude is waiting for you at home!" Up until last month, Jared Kushner had a pass from the regular "dressings-down" that even senior White House staff members were subject to, but now, Jared Kushner is also in the line of fire.

"I think ISIS can do bad things", McCain said.

At this afternoon's press briefing, press secretary Sean Spicer pointed to the "ongoing investigation" and read an earlier statement from Kushner's lawyers wherein he volunteered to meet with investigatory bodies to answer questions.

President Donald Trump Tuesday retweeted an article citing an unnamed source, two days after suggesting news outlets that cite unnamed sources could be making them up.

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, has been one of the Republicans most willing to criticize the administration, and the latest revelations have proved of concern for him. And I think that [former FBI Director James] Comey, we now know, took action that he did in regards to then-candidate [Hillary] Clinton because of some false news that was being put out by the Russians.

Trump also has to decide soon on a Pentagon recommendation to add more USA and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops in Afghanistan, as well as boosting reinforcement for the beleaguered Afghan military.

Even those who are supportive of the Trump White House say that Jared Kushner has lost clout with Trump, and Jared and Ivanka might take their leave of Washington, saying that they are exhausted of living in D.C., and wish to return to their life in NY.
