Huge 16 ft. 10 in. python caught by South Florida man

The snake hunter wrestled a 16-foot python into submission a feat he compared with WrestleMania. Such feats make a difference to an ecosystem under attack

Not only does he enjoy what he does, his wallet likes it a bit more.

A Florida snake hunter hit the jackpot when he presented officials with his latest catch: a almost 17-foot python worth $375.

Dusty "The Wildman" Crum snake hunter has caught a whopping python snake in the Everglades.

It's a big one!

A python hunter captured a massive 16-foot, 10-inch python in the Florida Everglades as part of the South Florida Water Management District's python elimination program this week, according to local reports.

Crum said he believed the snake was pregnant and perhaps otherwise injured when he walked up on it. But there are other incentives too, starting at $50 dollars for a four-foot long snake, $25 for each additional foot above.

So Wildman watches carefully and earns a double payday, $375 from SFWMD. Crum's snake weighed 130, which is still extremely terrifying. He can also sell the snake's skin and make about the same amount, doubling his income from the project.

Hunters are also given extra for snakes with eggs and this one had 78 eggs.

Although it's not known for sure just how invasive the python is, estimates range from 10,000 pythons in the Everglades to 100,000.
