Macron, Le Pen kick off final week with major Paris rallies

French far-right National Front leader and presidential candidate Marine Le Pen on Sunday proposed a dual currency system for France, a national currency for its home economy and another for global trade as, in her opinion, the "euro is dead".

Her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, known for anti-Semitism and xenophobia, founded the party and led it until his daughter replaced him in 2011 and later kicked him out.

The Harris Interactive poll places Mr Macron on 61 per cent and Ms Le Pen on 33 per cent.

In addition to the elections in France, the overall economic policies in Europe can also play a role in deciding the directional move for precious metals.

Polls predict Macron, a former economy minister, will win the May 7 run-off with about 59-60 percent.

According to the poll, both candidates are considered as not completely honest (47 percent), unfamiliar with the everyday needs of the people (44 percent) and unable to reduce the level of unemployment (45 percent).

Macron hugged Said Bourram, who was 9 when his father was killed.

The alliance statement, part of an electoral pact with Nicolas Dupont-Aignan's "Stand up France" party, put the softer stance in writing.

Le Pen, 48, seeking to close a 19-point gap in voter surveys as her Sunday showdown with 39-year-old Macron looms, will take her case as "the people's candidate" to the working-class suburb of Villepinte.

Amid worries about rising nationalism, French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron is visiting the Holocaust Memorial in Paris with a somber message: never again.

Le Pen has made the plight of French farmers a theme of her campaign, citing farm closures, rural poverty and farmers' suicides.

Cheers of "Marine President!" and anti-immigrant chants rose up in the crowd of thousands for Le Pen's rally north of Paris. He appealed to voters on both the left and right to have no qualms about voting for centrist Emmanuel Macron, if only to keep his rival Le Pen from scoring highly. The first round was held on April 23, with Macron winning with 24.01 percent of the votes and Le Pen coming second with 21.30 percent.

She has worked assiduously to try to rid the party of its more extreme edge - and kicked her father out of it after he repeatedly described Nazi gas chambers as a "detail of history".

French presidential frontrunner Emmanuel Macron on Monday paid homage to a young Moroccan man who drowned in the Seine 22 years ago after being pushed into the river by skinheads on the fringes of the National Front's traditional May Day rally.

"Ms Le Pen adopts an approach that builds on the fear from political Islam and on the refusal of Muslim integration in the European Community". "If everyone is agreed we could take a year or a year and a half to organize a coordinated return to national currencies", she said.

Political Science Professor Douglas Webber said: "It would be nearly impossible for the European Union to survive if Marine Le Pen should win the up-coming French Presidential elections, and subsequently win a referendum to withdraw France from it".

Nassar noted that Ms Le Pen was now attempting to destroy Franco-German cooperation.

In the last presidential election in 2012, Le Pen finished third with just under 18 percent.

This is the first time the FN has entered such an alliance as Le Pen's party has been traditionally shunned by the rest of the French political spectrum as a xenophobic and antidemocratic party, Efe news reported.
