Manchester bomber's sister reveals why brother killed 22 innocent people

Police announced two new arrests Thursday in their probe, bringing the total to eight people in custody in Britain.

Greater Manchester Police today said that they are investigating a network in connection with the bombing.

The suspect was arrested at an address in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, following searches connected to the attack, police said.

Abedi's father, Ramadan Abedi, was allegedly a member of the al-Qaida-backed Libyan Islamic Fighting group in the 1990s, according to a former Libyan security official, Abdel-Basit Haroun.

But the friend said Salman and his brother Hashem had changed after another youth - an 18-year-old Manchester resident also of Libyan descent - was killed in the northern British city a year ago.

Salman Abedi, 22, was born in Britain to Libyan parents.

In a Facebook post, the Special Deterrence Forces, which operates out of a former U.S. military base, said that Hashem had been an ISIS member, had been involved with the Manchester plot, and was en route to withdrawing 4,500 Libyan dinars (about US$560) sent by Salman when he was arrested Tuesday night by the militia. He spent 25 years in Britain before returning to Libya in 2011 after Gadhafi was ousted and killed in the country's civil war.

"Salman showed me the face of hate after my speech on ISIS", he said.

Salman Abedi blew himself up as Ariana Grande fans were leaving Manchester Arena on Monday night, killing 22 and wounding dozens.

Hours after the attack, ISIS claimed responsibility, terming Abedi as a "soldier of the caliphate".

"The British police have been very clear that they want to control the flow of information in order to protect operational integrity, the element of surprise, so it is irritating if it gets released from other sources, and I have been very clear with our friends that should not happen again", she said.

The Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership said on Wednesday that as many as 119 people had been injured in the attack, 64 of whom remain hospitalised, 20 of them critically. "She loved all music whether it was listening to Ariana or playing the bagpipes with her pipe band", it said.

The 22 victims in Manchester included an eight-year-old girl, several teenage girls, a 28-year-old man and a Polish couple who had come to collect their daughters. "The intelligence services know a lot of people, and I'm sure we will find out more what level they knew about him in due course", she told the BBC.

She was welcomed by her boyfriend, the rapper Mac Miller, before heading to her home, media reports said.

Investigators have said they are now looking at Abedi as part of a larger terrorist network that extends outside of Britain, though his father says that his son was not a jihadist.

Sky reported that police believed that the backpack was used in the Manchester Arena bombing. The head of Britain's domestic intelligence agency MI5, Andrew Parker, cancelled his attendance at an global anti-terrorism meeting in Germany this week as intelligence forces work round the clock on the Manchester attack probe.

He is believed to have returned to the United Kingdom from Libya just days before the attack.

Police in Germany confirmed Thursday that Abedi had traveled through Dusseldorf Airport on his way to Manchester a few days before the attack. There has been growing speculation if the polls will be postponed as a result of the attack and the "critical" terror threat level.
