New 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Sneak Peek Released

We are expecting Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to follow a similar release pattern as Civil War, and that's why we think it will be released in December 2016. Guardians of the Galaxy was one of those rare exceptions that surprised viewers back in 2014. As movie goers we want connect with the characters.

"The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joseph) are bringing all the characters together in the Marvel Universe". James Gunn, the writer of those one-liners, also manages to direct some creative action set-pieces, and has cooked up a handful of "wow" moments at unusual planets and freakish aliens. It might even be more stunning than the first one. What was engaging in the first film quickly overstays its welcome here.

The first film established that Peter's mother died when he was young and that a Ravager named Yondu (Michael Rooker) nabbed him off planet earth and forced him into a space pirate's life. This task is complicated by the fact that a man going by Ego (Kurt Russell) and claiming to be Peter's father has shown up, and Peter, Gamora and Drax (Dave Bautista) have flown off with him to his homeworld to check it out.

Ego brings the gang to the Eden-like planet that holds his lifeforce and is adorned with his face, a planet he designed from scratch in order to approximate what a flawless world might look like (thereby providing an easy justification for its existence as a giant CGI effect - it's only simulating a real place, after all).

There are other plots. Guardians of the Galaxy had the top domestic opening weekend ever for an August release, bringing in $94.3 million on its way to a worldwide total gross of $773.3 million by the time it left theaters. According to Comicbook, it is likely that Sylvester Stallone's Starhawk will take the lead in the fourth film. In the end of Guardians Of The Galaxy, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, sacrifices himself to save his friends - Star Lord, Gamora, Rocket and Drax. Groot's name appears throughout the credits, which are worth sitting through for the inevitable Marvel movie-ending "Easter eggs" that hint at future action.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is already the talk of the town following the successful debut of the second film in global theaters. And yet it's a bummer to feel as if the best, most sophisticated moments in "Guardians" have been snuck into the movie under the cover of spectacle. His tableaus can work their B-movie charms: a Ravagers mutiny, where dissenters are ejected into space, is harrowing. In Vol. 2, the wheels are starting to spin. They're a function of a person's headspace, a way of using tastes in music to forge human bonds. It's a small nod toward internal consistency that represents something deeper that the movie gets right: Groot became a twig in the last movie, so he's going to still be a twig when this one starts. And it's only so long before the gravitational pull of the Marvel universe begins to exert its influence.
