Police dog takes bullet meant for officer in Florida shootout

The shooting happened along Military Trail

A man shot and killed early Friday by deputies in Florida was wanted for a recent motel robbery in Raleigh. He was wanted for robbing a suburban bar in West Palm Beach, the Palm Beach Post reported.

No police were shot except Kasper, though one deputy was injured as he dove for cover. The suspects then started firing at our deputies and we returned fire.

Bradshaw said a police dog, PBSO K-9 Officer Kasper, took a bullet in the shootout that was meant for another officer.

They said they tracked him down later that day in Jupiter after he allegedly carjacked a woman.

The K-9, named Kasper, was shot after a suspect exchanged fire with sheriff's deputies in Palm Beach County, Florida. "After a short pursuit the suspects crashed their vehicle and began shooting at our deputies".

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Oshea had a warrant out for his arrest for armed in North Carolina and an extensive criminal history.

Oshea fired shots at deputies while they attempted to apprehend him. Deputies caught up with Oshea later Friday about 20 miles away in Jupiter and again got into a shootout, according to multiple local media accounts. Casper is now recovering and in stable condition.

Florida state law enforcement agents will investigate, as is customary for officer-involved shootings.
