Trump Says Comey 'Was Not Doing A Good Job'

Days before his dismissal, The New York Times reported Comey asked the Justice Department for "a significant increase in money and personnel for the bureau's investigation into Russia's interference in the presidential election".

It emerged that Mr Trump had called at least two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee before the White House announced the firing of Mr Comey - Lindsey Graham and Dianne Feinstein.

Senator Richard Burr, R-N.C., the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee said he was "troubled by the timing and reasoning" behind Comey's firing and that his dismissal "further confuses an already hard investigation by the committee". They didn't believe he was the best person to lead the FBI anymore after his fumble publicly discussing Hillary Clinton's emails shortly before the presidential election - more so that he apparently came to the wrong conclusion of closing that investigation. Hmm... "I personally am very grateful that we have a president willing to show the kind of strong and decisive leadership" necessary to fire him".

Krauthammer said the more interesting component to the story is Trump's letter to Comey, where he said, "While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation". Richard Burr of North Carolina, who is chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee that's leading an investigation into Russian meddling in the US election. On Wednesday, Trump labeled the Senate minority leader "Cryin' Chuck Schumer". So it's a really perilous situation we're in here in our country right now where the FBI - Comey said he did these press conferences last summer because he didn't know if the DOJ could be impartial. That's reflected in its directors' 10-year term, which aims to insulate them from becoming too deferential or dependent on any one president.

No, the reason Comey was sacked was because he was leading an investigation into the possibility of Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation.

Rosenstein wrote the memo that was used to justify Trump's swift and unexpected firing of Comey on Tuesday evening.

Just last week, Comey testified before Congress about the FBI's investigation of Russia's meddling in the United States election.

Following an outcry from politicians from both major parties, the President moved to justify his decision by insisting that Mr Comey had "lost the confidence of nearly everyone in Washington". That man was William Sessions, who was sacked by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

What should happen now...what must happen now...is that Mr. Rosenstein appoints a special prosecutor to oversee this investigation. He repeatedly asked aides why the Russian Federation investigation wouldn't disappear and demanded they speak out for him.

Comey had sought to defend his conduct in Senate testimony last week.
