Curry, Durant lead Warriors to 2-0 lead with 132-113 rout

Warriors forward Draymond Green speaks to reporters after Game 2 win

The Cleveland Cavaliers - and, by extension, LeBron James - knew they had to win Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night to even the series and have a realistic chance of beating the star-studded Golden State Warriors.

News that the pain and headaches that kept the coach away from the team for the first 43 games of last season had returned in April shocked fans in the Bay Area, where Kerr is a beloved figure. If the Cavaliers can't come close to them, can anyone?

If the playoffs are what matter most, no team has been this dominant.

Conventional wisdom entering the series was that having LeBron would be enough to steal one or two games for the Cavaliers. On Sunday, LeBron James nearly had a triple-double by halftime, Stephen Curry turned the ball over eight times and the Warriors never sprouted wings and began breathing fire out of their eyes ... that means that there's still room for improvement.

Following a Cleveland turnover, James got back on defense and matched up with Curry as the Warriors' point guard drove all the way to the baseline, where he was cut off by James, then doubled back to the three-point line, where he faked right as if he might go up for a jumper and then drove left, splitting James and Kevin Love as he went up for a layup to give the Warriors an 83-73 lead.

"What was the difference?" After enjoying the block for a second or two, he dribbled into the frontcourt, whizzed right by James with a crossover and then floated in a bank shot over a helpless Love. "But they're a team you cannot - you can't let them go on runs". Klay Thompson added 22 points for the Warriors.

Durant complements his teammates, his inside play giving them outside shots and their work opening room for him to attack.

In Game 3 past year, the Cavaliers rebounded in front of an emotional home crowd - "we got back to playing our game", LeBron said, after two games of everyone telling him and his team they were awful - and all of a sudden, Steve Kerr was saying his team played soft ("They just punched us right in the mouth") and Curry was already getting exhausted by questions speculating that he was hurt. "Playing with a lot of energy". "They're obviously trying to make a few other guys make some plays". Rebounds - C 41 (James 11), GS 53 (Durant 13). The Warriors followed with a 16-4 run that included 3-pointers from Curry and Thompson, a three-point play from Durant in transition and four points from Shaun Livingston.

It means Kyrie Irving has to remember he wielded the Game 7 dagger that gutted the Warriors just 12 months ago. "I thought he was fantastic". For the first time in weeks the Warriors were whole again.

"Tonight was a game based on talent. We need to take that mentality to Cleveland".

The Warriors won their first title in 40 years in 2015, downing an injury-hit Cleveland squad, and won a record 73 regular-season games the following campaign. Cleveland shot 3 of 20 on 3s in the first half and 8 for 29 total.

The Warriors blocked seven shots, including five by Durant, who became just the third player since 1984 to have a 30-point, 10-rebound, five-block game in the NBA Finals.

"We're anxious about the series", Durant said.

For many, the answer for the Cavs might be in making a trade that sends Love elsewhere. "Kyrie knows what he's capable of in this building, in the league, at our building".
