Del Potro shows sporting spirit, closes on Murray clash

Argentina's Juan Martín del Potro went over to Almagro at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris Thursday to hug the player, who was inconsolable over exiting the French Open.

At 1-all in the third set - del Potro took the first, then lost the second - there was the startling way Almagro paused at the baseline, placed his hands on his knees and shook his head, then fell backward onto the court.

It brought the Spaniard to tears and to the ground, sobbing at the baseline confirming his retirement from the match. And I told him to think about his family, his baby.

"Physically, I felt good today, which is the most positive thing for me", Murray said after a 3-hour, 35-minute 6-7, (3-7) 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) second-round victory over unsafe Slovakian, Martin Klizan. So to clarify what Venus said, I am always joking with my sisters to see what favours I can get them to do for me next. "Sometimes the heart is first more than the tennis match", Del Potro added. Murray was able to bounce back after dropping the first set and managed to win a fourth set tiebreak to avoid a marathon match.

It's been a disappointing year to date for the top-seeded Brit, who'll have to be on top of his game against Argentine hard-hitter Del Potro.

Del Potro had felt an issue with his groin against Almagro, but hopes he can recover in time for his match with the Brit.

'After tomorrow it could be another great battle if I feel good.

Of course, it wouldn't match the lofty standards of the best players on the ATP Tour, but with quarter-final appearances in his last two tournaments - played in Munich and Budapest, he is winning enough matches to cause higher ranked opponents problems.

"I think the surprise of knowing what you are going to have on that special day you give birth is prob the best surprise you can ever have!"

Looking faster and keener, Murray pushed through the second set in 37 minutes and the third in one minute less. "After tomorrow could be another great battle if I feel good". "I tried to play a solid match, I hit deeper the longer the match went on and tried to dictate the points".

Czech second seed Karolina Pliskova and third-seeded Simona Halep of Romania, both firm women's title favourites after the first round exit of world number one Angelique Kerber, look for places in the last 32. I just need my body to be good'.

Feliciano Lopez won a Spanish showdown over David Ferrer 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 while John Isner of the United States upset the clay formbook by beating Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2).
