Jury in Bill Cosby sex assault case studies his deposition

Constand took the stand last week, keeping her composure under a fierce barrage of cross-examination from the defense, which sought to portray their relationship as consensual, and Cosby's accuser as a liar.

Bill Cosby walks from the Montgomery County Courthouse after jurors in Cosby's sexual assault trial ended first day deliberations without reaching a verdict in Norristown, Pa., Monday, June 12, 2017. The jury is set to reconvene after deliberating for four hours Monday night.

Judge Steven T. O'Neill did not allow the woman, Marguerite Jackson, to testify during Cosby's defense, ruling her statements inadmissible as hearsay.

Jurors in the Cosby case continued to deliberate, nearing a total of 15 hours including a four-hour stint Monday, with only intermittent signs of progress.

The jury in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial will start its second day of deliberations by hearing more of Cosby's testimony in the accuser's related lawsuit. If convicted in this Montgomery County court proceeding, he faces up to 10 years in prison on each count.

Constand, 44, of Ontario, Canada, testified over two days that after taking the blue pills she began slurring her words and became "frozen" or paralyzed and was unable to fight off Cosby's sexual advances.

"He never shuts up", lawyer Brian McMonagle said of his client in closing arguments Monday.

Cosby has denied any wrongdoing in other accusations.

Cosby allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted Constand while she was the director of operations for Temple's women's basketball team, in 2004 in his suburban Philadelphia home.

Pointing to what he claimed were Constand's inconsistent statements, McMonagle and co-defense lawyer Angela C. Agrusa argued Constand initially told detectives she had limited phone contact with Cosby after the alleged incident, however, phone records showed she had called him 53 times.

"Drugging somebody and putting them in a position where you can do what you want with them is not romantic".

The jurors now have Constand's contradicting testimony in their heads and are most likely discussing this issue as it raises question on her credibility and intentions to file a civil lawsuit after that was the final question before jurors returned to their deliberations. In that deposition, Cosby, according to testimony, admitted he obtained quaaludes in the 1970s to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex.

Andrea Constand says she was drugged and molested. "And I went upstairs and I went into my pack and I broke one whole one and brought a half down and told her to take it". O'Neill, however, said he is not permitted to elaborate beyond what was written in the charges he had sent back with the jury.

He highlighted inconsistencies from Constand, who initially gave different dates for the alleged assault and varied details about events before and after. What is she going to say tomorrow?'

Constand said on the witness stand she didn't know Jackson.

Authorities declined to charge Cosby when she first came forward in 2005, but a new district attorney reopened the case in 2015 after Cosby's deposition was unsealed at the request of The Associated Press. There is too much of everything here, too many women reciting the same story (and instead of showing consistency, I think it could signal the mob effect.) Too many people willing to pull down a man who, because he happened to say the taboo things that shamed young black men for living down to expectations, is considered a traitor to the race.
