Kerr cracks that old-timers would kill Warriors

Charl Schwartzel

"The guys in the 50s would have destroyed everybody".

During his final season with Golden State, the Warriors allowed just 99.5 points per game. "But I don't expect anybody on the outside who really doesn't know the game to look at me as a defender because once you're labeled something that's what you're going to be".

Jackson coached the Warriors for three seasons from 2011-14 and led the team into the postseason in each of his last two seasons. Julius Erving says the '83 Sixers would've beaten the Warriors. The basketball players today jump higher, run faster, shoot better and understand more complex schemes.

For starters, the Warriors have Kevin Durant, a borderline 7-footer who has range out to half court, incredible defensive versatility and enough ball-handling ability to drive and attack the rim at will. Durant alone is set to claim Finals MVP, and could become the most efficient scorer in NBA Finals history along the way.

Steph Curry (l.) and Kevin Durant are a ideal 15-0 in these playoffs.

Per ESPN's Marc J. Spears, Kerr said Jackson made the Warriors a "great defensive team" prior to his arrival. That wasn't the case back then.

"I saw Dennis was complaining about resting players", a chuckling Kerr said back in April. "The hypothetical game is never one I've played".

Much of this is about protecting legacies and egocentricity.

Kerr replaced Jackson in 2014 and was able to transform the Warriors' offense, which also coincided with turning Draymond Green into their starting power forward.

But that's not what they're saying.
