Map: The state of the Paris agreement

Several hundred people marched through the Loop Friday evening to protest President Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate accords and to call on Gov. Bruce Rauner to promise compliance statewide.

Trump's supporters on Friday cast his decision to abandon the world's climate change pact as a "refreshing" stance for the USA that would save jobs and unburden industry.

She said also that Trump may unknowingly have crossed a line with important centres of power within the U.S., a fact that could play against him in the 2018 mid-term elections in which all 435 House of Representative seats and 34 of the 100 Senate seats will be up for grabs.

In announcing plans to pull the USA out of the Paris climate accord, President Donald Trump declared that he was "elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris".

Critics of the move include Travis Rieder, a Johns Hopkins bioethicist who was among five experts to analyze what the withdrawal means for the planet, USA business, and the world's poor in an article published by The Conversation.

"I have not had an opportunity to have that discussion" with the president, responded Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Friday.

This way, the Trump administration, heavily influenced by the fossil-fuel industry, will have less sway over the United Nations climate process, they said.

"There's no sugarcoating it: this is one of the most reckless and reprehensible decisions ever made by a US president".

Trump announced Thursday that his administration would immediately stop implementing the 195-nation accord brokered by Barack Obama in 2015 in tandem with Chinese leaders. "I would tell Trump that here the misery is caused by climate change, and if he doesn't pay attention, the United States will be touched one day by these problems, too".

Other global players needed to show more leadership. I don't know what it means to deny the climate.

These forms of action are important - but they won't be enough.

The Paris accord aims to prevent average temperature around the world from heating up by more than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) before the end of the century, compared to before the start of the industrial age.

Jason Bordoff, an energy-policy expert at Columbia University, said withdrawing from the Paris agreement would make no difference to the US energy outlook or economy. Pruitt again answered by insisting their discussions about the Paris accord were centered exclusively on whether the accord was good for the U.S. "In Pittsburgh, we've rebuilt our economy on the future and our people, not on the past".

"It is extremely unfortunate that the Trump administration could be stepping back from leading the world on climate change".

Pence called Trump's decision "refreshing". "There is certainly a change in weather", he said.
