Mother's hot vehicle lesson ends in kids' deaths

Cavanaugh Ramirez and 2-year old Juliet Ramirez

After being ignored by the girl, Randolph shut the door, went inside, smoked marijuana and then took a two to three-hour nap, according to the newspaper.

At the time Randolph said the kids were exposed to the extreme temperatures in the vehicle for "no more than an hour".

Cynthia Marie Randolph, 24, was being held Saturday on two counts of causing serious bodily injury to a child. During subsequent interviews with the police and with Texas Rangers, Randolph kept changing her story.

25-year-old Cynthia Randolph initially said her two-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son locked themselves in the auto, but admitted Friday she locked them in. After several story changes, police learned she locked them in the vehicle to teach them a lesson because her daughter Juliet didn't obey her and wouldn't get out of the auto when asked. When the daughter refused, Randolph said she shut the door to teach the girl a "lesson" and believed the girl "could get herself and her brother out of the auto when ready".

The children were pronounced dead about a half-hour after authorities were notified.

Randolph was booked into the Parker County Jail.

Friends and family say a pregnant woman fatally shot this week by Seattle police loved to sing and dance and adored her children. Her bond had not been set as of late Friday. Heatstroke begins when the body temperature reaches 104 degrees.

Those children died last month. After approximately 20 to 30 minutes, she said she realized she had not heard the children playing for a while and noticed they were not in the enclosed back porch area any longer.

The Texas mom is now in custody at Park County Jail.

The children, 2-year-old Juliet Ramirez and 16-month-old Cavanaugh Ramirez, were found deceased May 26 inside a vehicle on the 200 block of Rambling Loop, near Lake Weatherford.

Fowler said that any incidents involving any child are hard ones, but this call was especially heartbreaking because of the unfortunate deaths of the two children.
