Poll shows more Americans are beginning to support impeaching Trump

Calls from voting Americans for Congress to impeach President Donald Trump are on the rise, but a majority of them don't think Trump has actually committed an impeachable offense, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll finds. Cities in California and MA, known liberal territories, have passed resolutions calling for Trump's removal.

"The only way a president can be held accountable for abusing the public trust is via the impeachment process", Bonifaz said.

Municipal resolutions alone would not force impeachment proceedings against Trump. Several high level Trump administration staffers have been impacted by the allegations, including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was forced to resign less than a month into the Trump presidency for having contacts with Russians.

Allegedly the group has accumulated hundreds of thousands of signatures for the impeachment without beginning a formal campaign, according to John Bonifaz who is a constitutional lawyer heading the Free Speech for People. If Congress concludes they are, the articles of impeachment are drafted and voted on by the House. The president is not above the law. "To do otherwise would cause some Americans to lose respect for, and obedience to, our societal norms", Democratic Rep. Al Green said in a statement after calling for Trump's removal on the floor of the House.

"The first, and most serious, is that Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed to investigate potential links between Mr Trump and Russian Federation, uncovers evidence of wrongdoing sufficiently serious to turn Republican sentiment against Mr Trump", the EIU noted. Pawar said that when Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey, that pushed him to finally take action. "But in this country, we're innocent until proven guilty ... let's give it a chance to play out".

The House of Representatives has impeached two US presidents in the past including Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton but were acquitted by the Senate. The majority of those who advocate for Trump's impeachment believe that Trump is unfit for office, but don't have a specific reason for their decision.

In 1974, President Richard Nixon was facing impeachment procedures over the Watergate scandal, but resigned from office before it went through.

Exactly half of US voters said they disapprove of the job Trump is doing as President, the latest Politico/Morning Consult Poll found, while only 45% of voters said they approved of the job Trump was doing.

"The President violates the Title of Nobility Clause, as explained in Article I, Section 9 of the United States Constitution", states one petition, which had received almost 150,000 signatures as of Wednesday.
