Spanish state prosecutor accuses Jose Mourinho of tax fraud

Ronaldo is at the Confederations Cup in Russian Federation, playing for Portugal.

In the season just ended, he won three trophies in his debut campaign at Manchester United, although he drew criticism after a poor league performance in which United finished sixth in the Premier League. Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, among others, have already been convicted.

A Spanish state prosecutor accused former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho of tax fraud worth €3.3 million (NZ$5.09 million) in unpaid taxes on Tuesday (Wednesday NZ Time).

Ronaldo, who is in Russian Federation at the Confederations Cup with Portugal's national soccer team, has played in Spain for Real Madrid since 2009.

Known as "the Special One", Mourinho, 54, is one of the most prominent and successful coaches in soccer today.

And Perez, on the subject of De Gea, claimed that the club would not approach Man United for the shot-stopper this summer.

The cases are about the profits made from image rights, not salaries from their clubs.

The 18-year-old has reportedly told AC Milan he will not be extending his contract which expires next summer and Madrid are thought to be in pole position for his signature.

Real Madrid was not immediately available for comment on the allegations against Mourihno or Ronaldo's hearing.

According to the BBC, José Mourinho is accused of not paying €3.3m between 2011 and 2012 when in charge of Real Madrid.

Prosecutors accuse the Portugal global of evading tax via a shell company based in the British Virgin Islands and another in Ireland, known for its low corporate tax rate.

Ronaldo, who has been summoned to appear in court on July 31, has denied any wrongdoing.

The accusations against Ronaldo have caused speculation in Portugal and Spain that he is now considering leaving the country to play elsewhere.

The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid are looking into Mourinho's time at Real Madrid, where he was a manager for four years from 2010-2013.

Spanish prosecutors have also indicted football player Predrag Mijatovic for tax fraud while allegedly working as an unlicensed football agent. The player is accused of defrauding tax authorities of €14.7m, by also hiding his income from image rights.
