Spicer won't say whether Trump has confidence in Sessions

White House press secretary Sean Spicer refused to answer a question on Tuesday about whether President Donald Trump still has confidence in Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

In recent days, White House officials have downplayed the importance of Trump's tweets, which the President often uses to air more unfiltered opinions than those given out by his administration's press shop.

Spicer last month declined to say whether Trump had confidence in his FBI Director James Comey hours before Comey was suddenly fired. What Neiss couldn't have known Sunday, however, was that the very nature Trump's tweets would become a cable news talking point the very next day, as the president's surrogates attempted to argue that media was "obsessing" over Trump's social media use, seemingly in the attempt to separate the president's Twitter statements from his presidential actions.

When asked if Trump's tweets are hindering his ability to get things done, Spicer defended Trump as the "most effective messenger".

Trump recently also attacked London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him "pathetic" in the wake of the London terror attack, as well as Qatar, hinting the Muslim country may have sponsored radical ideology. It's a unique audience that, prior to social media, might have been hard to reach. What Collins did in his "New Day" interview is make the case I made yesterday: That Trump's Twitter feed is more important than what his staff says is the White House's position. "I think it's frankly refreshing".

The White House hasn't responded. "The Justice Dept. should ask for an expedited hearing of the watered down Travel Ban before the Supreme Court - & seek much tougher version!" Through the simple magic of an automated Twitter bot, St. Louis educator and software developer Russel Neiss has cast Trump's infamous Twitter tirades into something resembling a presidential mold.

Trump's Twitter comments on his travel ban could play a role as his administration appeals adverse court rulings to the Supreme Court.

Pressed on the issue, Spicer said, "If I haven't had a discussion with [Trump] on a subject, I tend not" to speak about it. The ACLU was referencing a series of tweets from the president on Saturday in which he reiterated his definition of the executive order as a "ban", rather than the "vetting system" label Spicer gave it earlier this year.
