Two Former Press Secretaries Have Some Advice For Sean Spicer

Survey finds Israel, Russia are only countries that favor Trump over Obama

White House press secretary Sean Spicer's briefing with reporters turned testy on Monday, with CNN's Jim Acosta interrupting President Donald Trump's chief spokesman to demand he explain why television cameras were ordered off.

In a new era of pre-dawn tweets by the chief executive and myriad changes in media technology, we recognize that numerous traditions of presidential communications may change.

On the other hand, TV does inspire lots of reporters, both TV and otherwise, to preen for the cameras and ask questions whose main function is to hear themselves talk and to get on TV.

"This important subject", Spicer replied as he began walking quickly down the street and toward the White House - as a gang of reporters followed behind.

Tension between the White House and the press came to a head Tuesday when a reporter for a Maryland newspaper group and Playboy magazine interrupted deputy spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

News host Chuck Todd went after the Trump administration Wednesday for running a "war on the truth".

In an age when more media than ever before can be easily accessed by the general public, the White House is trying to control briefings even more closely - and the administration expects mainstream journalists to step in line.

After several such outbursts by Acosta, another reporter asked Spicer about the White House's decision. The White House has appeared to adopt a communications strategy of dealing primarily with its base of supporters, as witnessed by Trump's two interviews in the past week with Fox News Channel's morning show, "Fox & Friends". Televised briefings had been a near-daily occurrence for decades.

Acosta finished off his series of tweets by saying video coverage of the briefing was, "outlawed".

"Could you at least give us an explanation as to why the cameras are off?" If the press responds with a boycott, only Trump-friendly outlets will report the news.

In case anyone needs a reminder, the press restrictions are only going to get worse under Trump not better. This is likely a comment related to a suggestion the press secretary made recently that he believes that reporters sometimes ask questions in order to try to cause a scene so they can become YouTube stars.
