Washington's Bryce Harper gets suspension reduced 1 game

29 May 2017 Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper reacts with rage after being hit by a pitch thrown by the San Francisco Giants Hunter Strickland during action in a Major League Baseball game against the Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco CA

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper's suspension for his involvement in Monday's benches-clearing fight with Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland has been reduced to three games from four, according to multiple reports.

While Harper initially was handed a four-game suspension, his counterpart in Strickland was tabbed with a six-game ban of his own. Harper was also knocked for charging the mound and throwing his helmet, Major League Baseball said. However, FanRag Sports has confirmed that Harper's suspension has since been reduced to just three games.

Torre's initial ruling came Tuesday afternoon, and with both players immediately appealing the decision they were allowed to be in uniform and play in the evening's game.

Harper still sounded bewildered that Strickland would hold a grudge for so long, saying, "It's just insane that it even happened yesterday".

Strickland took responsibility for beaning Harper but did not express any regret for his actions.

"I'm obviously not thrilled about it", Strickland said. "I don't know. I don't know what was going through his mind or how upset he was the past couple of years".

Baker called the punishment of Harper unfair saying that very few batters would have turned the other cheek. Harper, the National League MVP in 2015 leads Washington with 15 homers, 41 RBIs along with 44 runs scored.

Giants teammates Michael Morse and Jeff Samardzija collided hard as they tried to get between the two fighters, and Harper said it could have been more serious if that hadn't happened.

However, both Harper and Baker said that it appeared the Giants were surprised by the beaning and that Buster Posey the Giants catcher did not make an attempt to stop an irate Harper from reaching the pitcher.

The lack of reaction evoked plenty of commentary on social media, which Posey declined to discuss publicly.
