Israeli Embassy in Amman: Two Jordanians killed and one Israeli wounded

Jordanian security forces stand guard outside the Israeli embassy in the residential Rabiyeh neighbourhood of the capital Amman

Emerging from a mosque hundreds of meters (yards) away from the embassy, the protesters chant "Death to Israel" and "No Zionist embassy on Jordanian soil", an AFP correspondent says.

Jordan is one of two Arab states with which Israel has peace treaties, and such an outburst against Israel is rare.

Jordan's King Abdullah has asked Benjamin Netanyahu to put an Israeli embassy guard who on Sunday shot and killed two Jordanian citizens, on trial. Police said in a statement that the questioning is required under worldwide law, as the security guard was sent back home Monday after Israel claimed that he was covered by diplomatic immunity.

It said the measure will "ensure the security of visitors and worshippers" at the holy site and in Jerusalem's Old City. In clashes with police in several areas of Jerusalem and occupied territories, three young Palestinians were killed.

People attend the funeral of Mohammad Jawawdah, killed by an Israeli embassy Guard in Amman, on July 25, 2017, Jordan.

Before the shooting, Jordanians had entered the apartment building for carpentry work, the statement said.

Jordan's King Abdullah II lashed out at Israel's prime minister on Thursday, saying everyone in the kingdom was "infuriated" by what he called "unacceptable and provocative behavior" in connection with a deadly shooting at Israel's Embassy in Amman earlier this week.

The guard's version of events differs from other accounts that suggested the stabbing was motivated by a row over the late delivery of furniture. Israeli staff were allowed to evacuate from the country, over local objections, but Jordanian media reported on Thursday that they would only be allowed to return if Ziv, who was under diplomatic protection, faces criminal charges.

Under global laws and covering diplomatic immunity, Israel is required to question Ziv.

Family members said officials from the Jordanian government, including the prime minister and officers from the General Intelligence Department, have visited the family to pay their respects. The tensions have led to mass prayer protests and Israeli-Palestinian violence. There was a small police presence at the protest, but security has been strengthened around the Israeli embassy compound since the incident.

Following the call, Netanyahu held a consultation with his security cabinet to discuss a possible "technological solution" that would replace the metal detectors.
