Rand Paul delivers sobering update on status of Senate's Obamacare replacement bill

McCain said that he would file amendments that would address concerns of leaders from his state about how the bill would affect Medicaid.

As Sen. McCain, who's eligible for federal subsidies to pay for his healthcare, recovers from his surgery and the Republicans again stall the vote, many have noted the irony of the lawmaker's health needs holding up legislation that would leave many without healthcare. There are only 52 Republicans in the Senate, and two of them - Sens. The surgery was described as a "minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision".

McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, was resting comfortably at home in good condition after the Friday operation, according to doctors at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix.

Members of Senate will reportedly delay a vote on the Republican health-care bill that was set for this coming week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday. "The problem is the substance", the NY senator told reporters. McConnell said at the time that more time was needed to complete action on legislative items.

Two Republicans, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of ME, have already said they'll vote against the measure.

In other words, the Republicans didn't have the votes to pass its health care bill. His office said he would spend next week in Arizona recovering from the surgery, leaving McConnell short of the votes to move forward.

It's hard to say right now who's a yes and who's a no because the bill itself seems to be in constant flux.

How much trouble is the Obamacare repeal bill in if McConnell has to depend on the vote of John McCain for passage?

McConnell gave no new timetable for the vote when he announced the delay late Saturday, saying only that the the Senate will "defer consideration" of the bill while working on other matters.

The Congressional Budget Office is not expected to release its analysis of the revised Republican health care bill Monday, a Senate GOP aide tells CNN.

"We've got one last chance to stop single-payer health care".

Cornyn also argued the current bills reported unpopularity with voters is because "all they hear is the critics". Additionally, insurers have largely panned the GOP health care proposal, especially for a Sen.

A vote should be held "as soon as we have a full contingent of senators" present, Sen.

However, on Friday night, the CEO's of America's Health Insurance Plans and the BlueCross BlueShield Association called the plan "unworkable", and the conservative plan isn't going to easily get moderates on board.

A previous version of the health-care bill was pulled from the floor of the House of Representatives in March after it failed to gain enough votes to advance.
