Iran's Rouhani sworn in for new term, commits to nuclear deal

Iran President Hassan Rouhani vows to end isolation as he begins his second term

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was sworn in for a second term Saturday in front of more than 100 foreign dignitaries as he accused the United States of undermining the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the major world powers.

Tehran says the new measures violate its 2015 deal with world powers that eased sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme, an agreement which Trump has repeatedly threatened to tear up.

Rouhani, 68, was speaking on Saturday evening in parliament in downtown Tehran, after taking the oath of office for another four years as chief executive.

He said that the Islamic republic would remain committed to the global nuclear deal and would not violate the deal signed two years ago.

"We will never accept isolation", Rouhani told a packed audience of Iranian political and military officials in Tehran.

"The nuclear deal is a sign of Iran's goodwill on the global stage.Iran will never be isolated", he said.

"Overcoming risky threats and complicated developments in the current state of flux is not possible, except through increased contacts and interaction and establishment of dialogue with governments and nations". Khamenei again called for economic self-sufficiency and a "resistance economy", a stance arising from his repeated criticism of the halting pace of economic recovery since most worldwide sanctions on Iran were lifted early previous year.

Rouhani defeated hard-line conservative Ebrahim Raisi in Iran's May 19 election after garnering 57 percent of the vote.

The law also imposed new sanctions on Russian Federation and North Korea.

Iran has been complaining that the USA, as another party to the deal, has been seeking to sabotage worldwide - including European - trade with Iran. "For example, improvements in specific human rights, which we didn't yet do", said Becerra, referencing the nuclear agreement of 2015, which gives the European Union leverage to force this human rights issue front and center.

"Repeated breaches of commitments by the USA administration. can be destructive", he said, quoted by the official IRNA news agency. In a meeting prior to his inauguration, Rouhani said the presence of senior European diplomats showed Europe's determination to expand ties with Iran, despite pressure from the US. Officials from over 90 countries attended the event.

Afghan experts said they believe that Iran should thank Afghanistan for benefiting from its water resources in the course of history.
