Richard Spencer's University of Florida White Nationalist Event Denied

The University of Florida is denying white nationalist Richard Spencer's request to appear on the Gainesville campus next month, citing the deadly violence at a similar rally last week in Virginia.

Spencer is a known leader of the white nationalist movement was present and participating in Charlottesville with the former KKK leader, David Duke, according to ABC News.

Fuchs called Spencer's comments on race "repugnant and counter to everything the university and this nation stands for", AP reported.

"Of course we all know we have the first amendment, but we are not ever going to condone violence", The governor said before UF made its decision.

When asked if white nationalists, such as Richard Spencer, would be allowed to speak on campus, MU officials say it will answer when actually faced with the opportunity.

While the planned event has not been confirmed by either the University of Florida or the National Policy Institute, students and local residents have already begun to make plans.

"I think they are well within their rights to say, 'Sorry not today.' There are 60,000 students that would be under a threat", Anderson said.

Hours later, Mitch Emerson, an Orlando based political activist, created a Facebook event to organize a counter protest, if the university approved Spencer's request.

Officials at the University of Central Florida and Rollins College said Wednesday they had not been contacted by Spencer or the National Policy Institute about scheduling any similar events.

Fuchs said the decision stemmed from the potential for violence, not the words or ideas.

"You have to have some good reason - surely Charlottesville provides that ground cover", Olivas said.

Spencer serves as the organization's president and is a white nationalist. Stay tuned for more on this coming soon!

President of the UF Black Student Union Dwayne Fletcher said he is confident that the courts will take everyone's safety into consideration, especially in light of the events that occurred in Charlottesville. But Kyle Bristow, who graduated from MSU in 2009 with a degree in worldwide relations from James Madison College, was a featured speaker at the 2016 Alt-Right Conference in Detroit.

Despite the seriousness of Charlottesville, barring Spencer's views from being expressed on campus in the future "is a very hard position to sustain", he said.

While the right to free speech is important, there is no right protecting against inciting violence and riots. I again denounce all statements and symbols of hate.

U. of C. Law Professor Geoffrey Stone on Saturday published emails from August 1 from Spencer, who asked for an invitation to speak at the university.

"We all do have free speech, but there are parameters on that if it's looking at endangering other people", she said.
