Rouhani vows to end isolation amid fresh United States sanctions

New US sanctions on Iran not to end nuclear deal, expert says

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has officially endorsed the reelection of Hassan Rohani as Iran's president.

The diplomat also said presidents of seven countries had arrived Iran by Thursday night to take part in the ceremony. Among those in attendance at the ceremony was former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who fell out of favour with the establishment and was notably barred from standing as a candidate. However, he has already faced considerable pushback from conservative opponents and now faces mounting threats from the United States, which passed fresh sanctions against Iran on Wednesday. Trump also referred to a Supreme Court case, Zivotofsky v. Kerry, in which the high court ruled that Congress can not require the State Department to issue passports stating that Jerusalem is in Israel, which is contrary to current US policy.

"In our view the nuclear deal has been violated and we will show an appropriate and proportional reaction to this issue", Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in an interview with state TV, according to the ISNA news agency.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave his endorsement letter to the re-elected President Hassan Rouhani, during the ceremony for his confirmation as the Iranian chief executive, in Tehran on Aug 3, Trend's correspondent reported from the event.

Ray based her expectation on a July 21 meeting in Vienna of the Mogherini-chaired commission that brings together Iran and the other parties to discuss the deal's implementation.

Britain, France and Germany who signed the deal alongside Russia, China and the United States remain firm backers of the agreement and are eagerly seeking to rebuild trade ties with Iran despite logistical problems caused by US sanctions.

An Iranian official said on Tuesday that the new U.S. sanctions break the terms of the nuclear deal.

The Iranian president championed a nuclear deal with the United States and five other major powers in 2015 that led to the lifting of most sanctions against Iran previous year, in return for curbs on its nuclear program.

The bill seeks to ban anyone dealing with Iran's ballistic missile programme from entering the USA, and blocks transactions on properties held in the U.S.by people associated with the programme.

"And the second debate is, if these sanctions are to be implemented, how should Iran respond?"

Rouhani will take oath in parliament on Saturday.

In Iran's presidential election on May 19, Rouhani garnered 23.5 million votes out of a total of 41 million. His main rival, cleric Ebrahim Raisi, received 38 percent of the vote.
