Boris Johnson faces awkward 7-hour flight with PM after Brexit row

Stanley Johnson said Boris wouldn't care about being sacked for his Brexit article

Theresa May expects Boris Johnson to remain in her Cabinet, with the Prime Minister insisting the Foreign Secretary is "doing good work".

It was reported by the Telegraph, that Johnson could even resign before the weekend if May signalled that she will sign the United Kingdom up for paying access to the single market permanently, in an arrangement similar to remaining in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Johnson told reporters in NY that he would not be resigning, saying: "We are working together, that is the key thing, to make sure that Britain can take advantage of the opportunities of Brexit".

Mr Johnson is due to see Mrs May for the first time since his Telegraph article as the pair attend the United Nations General Assembly in NY.

It is understood that May's speech will avoid discussing the finer details of a future UK-EU relationship, which would leave the door open for either of the options reportedly favoured by different members of the cabinet.

"We're working together, and the key thing is to make sure Britain can take advantage of the opportunities that Brexit provides".

And, if Mr Johnson feels that he can not make a positive contribution to negotiations, why is he still in such an important job?

In an interview with the Guardian in NY, the man who past year fronted the Vote Leave campaign said it was about time people heard what he had to say on Brexit and played down reports that might quit this weekend. They said that he cared more about meeting the "discredited promises of the leave campaign" than delivering the best Brexit for Britain after the article was published without Downing Street's agreement.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will promise to pay a Brexit divorce bill of at least 20 billion euros (USD 24 billion), the Financial Times newspaper reported today.

He told the Financial Times: "From my personal point of view, I think he should have kept his mouth shut, quite simply".

A Telegraph report - dismissed as "mischief" by allies of the Foreign Secretary - suggested Mr Johnson would be prepared to quit by the weekend if Mrs May concedes too much to the European Union in her efforts to secure a trade deal. She told reporters on Monday that Mr Johnson's article wasn't authorised and that she was in control.

Johnson said: "It is perfectly true that I had thought "res ipsa loquitur" [the matter speaks for itself], just get on and do the job, but I was conscious that people wanted me to contribute to the public debate".
