Lawyer asks court to order army chief to produce Kanu

Courts remands 60 IPOB Members as FG Gazettes its Proscription

Minister for information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has responded to claims that the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is being by the federal government in secret detention.

The senators put main blame on the chairman of the South east caucus, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia) for standing surety for the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, a sources privy to the discussion told Daily Trust.

Kanu is said to have gone missing since the incident.

The Nigerian army has however refuted the claims it invaded Kanu's home nor killed anybody.

Last week, Ejiofor filed a suit at the court asking it to vacate its order proscribing the group.

The application also said Kanu was still enjoying the bail granted him by the court, when the prosecution in his trial requested the court to revoke the bail.

IPOB media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful said in a statement that Kanu, who incidentally holds British citizenship, had not been seen since a detachment of soldiers stormed his residence on14th September, 2017.

"That the invading soldiers, in their desperate bid to ensure that the applicant is caught in the attack climbed stairs to his bedroom upstairs to shot him; walls of his bedroom were riddled with bullets".

There have been fears that those who stood as sureties for his bail, one of them Senator Enyinnaya Abaaribe, risk jail terms in an event Kanu fails to appear when his case comes up in court next month.

By law, a high court has the jurisdiction to entertain the charges against the suspects.

Further on the proscription, the federal government of Nigeria had equally and still insists that IPOB is a terrorist organisation, maintaining that the group had printed its currency and was extorting money from innocent citizens of Nigeria.
