United States retaliates against Russian Federation by giving diplomats the boot from major cities

Trump-Russia probe: Mueller 'working with New York Attorney General' in move that could persuade Manafort to talk

The sanctions were imposed in response to Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and to punish Russia further for its 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. Russian President Vladmir Putin ordered the expulsion of more than 700 us diplomats after the USA imposed sanctions on Russia in July. She said no Russian diplomats are being expelled - the diplomats in those three building may be reassigned to other Russian consulates in the U.S.

After making the announcement, United States officials said that they hope that the two sides "can avoid further retaliatory actions. and move forward to achieve the stated goal of both of our presidents: improved relations between our two countries". She added the USA hoped both countries could now move toward "improved relations" and "increased cooperation".

The State Department said Washington is "prepared to take further action as necessary and as warranted".

As reported earlier by JOL, the United States directive to close one Russian consulate and two diplomatic annexes was ordered in response to Russia's expulsion of 755 U.S. diplomats from Moscow.

The White House has ordered Russian Federation to close a consulate and two annexes in response to Moscow's order to reduce by 750 the number of American diplomats in the US mission there.

In other words, the political class that's been jockeying for a Cold War revival since long before Trump took the White House (a revival that was all but promised given a Hillary Clinton victory) is dying to hear talk of "firte and fury" from the president on Russian Federation.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Russia's foreign minister Sergey V. Lavrov about the punishment in a phone call Thursday and sought to reassure him that the U.S.is not trying to ratchet up tension.

North Korea isn't the only country with whom the U.S.is engaging in tit-for-tat diplomacy.

The U.S. embassy and consulates' employees are largely Russian nationals, and there were reports that some 600 Russians would lose their jobs because of the cuts while 100 Americans would be forced to leave their posts.

Tillerson and Lavrov also agreed to a meeting in September, according to the official. It gave Moscow 48 hours to comply.

The tit for tat diplomatic war on diplomatic staff between the United States and Russia continues that began with President Obama expelling 35 Russian diplomats from the country and seizing two Russian diplomatic compounds in the aftermath of 2016 election for Russia's alleged meddling in the U.S. election.
