U.S. flies strategic bombers over Korean peninsula

Military Says Has Technology to Make Blackout Bombs

While the new measures also include limitations on the sale of refined petroleum products and crude oil, European Union member states will not provide new work permits to North Korean nationals.

Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un exchanged heated rhetoric in recent weeks. Two days previous to that comment the president said on the social media platform that Pyongyang had violated agreements "before the ink was dry, making fools of US negotiators".

While North Korea was not able to hack USA power companies, there are concerns among some of observers that the regime may attempt to damage the power grid by detonating a nuclear device at a high altitude above the US, triggering an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). "What I am going to tell you is that the [South Korea]-US alliance, that bilateral entity, is there to deal with those types of situation and safeguard against them".

North Korea is also facing strong sanctions from the US and firm condemnation from the global community in the wake of repeated missile launches and nuclear tests.

A South Korean presidential official said Tuesday's operation was part of a recently agreed upon rotational deployment of USA military assets to the peninsula, according to the Yonhap News Agency. Pyongyang belatedly responded by relocating some of its military aircraft to its east coast, the National Intelligence Service then said.

The bombers took off from the US Pacific territory of Guam, before entering South Korean airspace and conducting firing exercises over the East Sea and Yellow Sea, South Korea's military said.

North Korea has said Trump is "on a suicide mission" against it, with the country's foreign minister calling the US President "mentally deranged" in a speech at the United Nations last month.

Outside governments and global human rights organizations say Kim rules as a tyrant over a largely malnourished and abused population while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle backed up by a weapons program almost advanced enough to viably target the USA mainland with nuclear-tipped missiles.

Rhee Cheol-hee, a member of the ruling Democratic Party who also sits on a defense panel, told the media outlet that about 80 percent what the classified documents contained have yet to be identified, but they included contingency plans for South Korea's special forces, reports to allied commanders and information on key military installations and power plants in the South. More recently, Seoul accused North Korea of having hacked, stolen and leaked sensitive military secrets and Seoul-Washington war plans.
