PUBG to be published in China by Tencent with anti-cheat focus

China isn't locking out PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds yet

After months of behind-the-scenes negotiations, South Korea's PUBG Corp. and Chinese mega-company Tencent have signed a publishing agreement. Because of that, Tencent said it will work closely with PUBG Corporation and the Chinese authorities to change the game in necessary ways to keep it legal in the country.

There isn't a release date for the Chinese version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on the books just yet, but hopefully it'll be out soon so eager players can finally get their hands on the game they've been trying to play (legally) for some time now.

Tencent will operate the game in the region.

To appease Chinese regulators, Tencent said it will make adjustments to the game's content and ensure "they accord with socialist core values".

A couple of weeks ago, The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television in China has deemed that the game "deviates from the values of socialism and is deemed harmful to young consumers".

Among other things, the developer studios for their survival games have added red banners that read, "safeguard national security, safeguard world peace".

Chinese gaming company Tencent Holdings will alter the game to bring it more in line with socialist culture and values, according to Reuters.

In turn, it's thought this iteration of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will offer "healthy, positive cultural and value guidance, especially for underage users". The game also won "Best Multiplayer Game" and "PC Game of the Year" at this year's Golden Joysticks Awards.
